Top 10 Ideas To Encourage Bridesmaid Bonding

BridesmaidsWe probably all know the movie “Bridesmaids” and have had many laughs over the girls and their differences. It’s a reality that brides, when choosing her bridesmaids, will not pick a group of girls that have all chummed together and know each other well. The bride has chosen various people to be in her wedding party that have a special place in her heart and life. While the goal is not that all those chosen become besties, it is a lot less stressful when they can all get along, ‘celebrate’ their differences, and join together to create fun and memorable experiences not only for the wedding day but also any pre-wedding parties.

It can be especially helpful for the bride to coordinate times for her bridesmaids to be together prior to the wedding. Not only does this help them to get to know each other, it allows them the opportunity to exchange phone numbers and any information that subsequently may help in possibly planning any pre-wedding events together.  Each bridesmaid will have special characteristics and possibly talents that will be very helpful in preparing for the big day and while the bride may already know each one’s traits, it will be good for her attendants to learn this too. There are many ways of bringing everyone together for an afternoon or evening of fun and ‘bonding time’. You obviously won’t want to plan things on a weekly basis as you don’t want to ‘over do it’ and coordinating schedules can be a challenge but we thought we would give some ideas you could consider between your engagement and wedding day.

Bridesmaid Bonding Ideas

  1. Dress Shopping – Have an idea of style and colour prior to your excursion.
  2. Movie Night – Whether in or out at the movies; popcorn, drinks & laughs are always welcome.
  3. Wedding Website Session – Whether helping to establish it or not it is important that they know all the features so as to tell other friends, family & guests how to maneuver around the site and get all the information.
  4. Wedding Favour Time – Are you thinking a DIY guest favour? This is a great reason to get assistance & input!
  5. Cookie Exchange – Everyone loves getting a dozen cookies. Picking a theme makes it even more fun.
  6. Bachelorette Party – Classically involves dressing up and doing some bar hopping creating stories and memories with every stop.
  7. Spa Day – Manicures, pedicures, facials etc. all help everyone relax and feel good. (Do it at home or some places allow you to bring in a bottle of wine!)
  8. Wine and Cheese Party – Discuss wedding preparations, progress or to plan and coordinate a pre-wedding party like a ‘Stag and Doe’ or ‘Shower’ and decide on dates and who does what.
  9. Cooking Class Evening – Coordinate a night where everyone can get together to learn to cook a special dish.
  10. Special Occasion Get together – Like filling Easter baskets together, or decorating Victoria Day cookies, or having a beach day etc.

Bridesmaids having funIt is the bride’s worst nightmare to have bridesmaids that are difficult and the last thing the bride has time for is to play mediator between all involved. Hopefully those chosen for this special role in the wedding will do their best to make themselves available for times together and learn to appreciate any differences that arise. These are opportunities to make more memories, have fun times together prior to the big day and possibly build new friendships. Have fun! You can even do your ‘Bonding Day’ invite on your Eventastic Weddings themed website and send to all the bridesmaids!

How to Make a Bridal Shower Recipe Book

Over the last couple years, I have attended many bridal showers and i’ve noticed a trend in the organizers requesting guests to email their personal best recipes prior to the shower. The organizer(s) then assembles a special cookbook of recipe favourites to be presented to the bride-to-be on the day of the shower. Note: If you are a bride reading this, then consider forwarding to your wedding party participants. 🙂

Love to cookEvery new bride comes into the marriage with some of her own recipe favourites but based off the reactions i’ve witnessed, it seems everyone appreciates receiving a book/binder prepared by friends/loved ones containing all their popular choices whether it’s a first marriage or not. Planning and executing the cookbook can be as simple or extravagant as you choose.  Here are some simple suggestions to get you started.

5 Steps To An Awesome Recipe Book

  1. Purchase a binder with clear sleeve on the front to easily slide in a label, maybe a printed picture or caricature of the couple
  2. Buy plastic sleeve 3-hole inserts and dividers (easily wipeable for spills) and arrange in the binder with categories such as; Drinks, Breakfast Ideas, Appetizers, Soups & Salads, Main Meals, Breads & Muffins, Cookies & Squares and Pies & Cakes. Fun idea: Put a picture of a delectable dish relevant to the category as the cover page for each section.
  3. Send your Eventastic shower invite to guests; requesting they send you one or more of their favourite recipes to be included in the recipe book. Make sure to ask that they include a picture of the dish and have the recipe to you, the organizer, by a certain date to give you time to put it together. To make it even easier for guests you can click ‘Allow Photo Sharing’ and ask guests to simply share a photo of their specific recipe right on the shower invitation page.
  4. Plan an afternoon or evening of fun to put the book together and have everyone (if more than you organizing)bring recipes of their own to top up every category. Decide whether you will be retyping the recipes in a particular font or use as is.
  5. Wrap the recipe book in a tea towel tied with string. Rather than a typical bow, you could top it off with spatulas or other cooking tools.

Often when we are at a friend or family member’s home we enjoy a great meal and would love to be able to replicate it in our own home. Having a book with favourites already tested and known to be popular is a real treat for any bride-to-be. There have definitely been a few times when I left these showers wishing I could have had a copy of the book she received!

So, if you’re planning a bridal shower turn on your creative side and consider making a bridal shower recipe book.  Remember it’s ok to delegate any artistic jobs to those with particular talents that will be participating. Have fun. I know she’ll enjoy it!

How to Propose to Your Wedding Party

Deciding on who will be in your wedding party isn’t always easy. Perhaps you don’t know who to select or you are limited on the number you can choose based on the other half.

Once you get over the hurdle of deciding who you want in your wedding party you still have to ask them.  It is still common to just come right out and ask but it is becoming trendy to ask your wedding party in a creative, memorable way. How you go about asking your party all comes down to how much time and money you would like to invest into the act of asking and how important it is to you in the grand scheme of things.

Now it’s your turn to pop the question!

There is no shortage of ideas floating around the internet of creative ways you can ask your wedding party.

In addition to the pinterest board  we’ve put together of our favourite ways to pop the question, I thought I’d share with you how I did it because obviously I think it is hilarious and adorable.

I Mustache You A Question

I made the same cards for both the groomsmen and bridesmaids which saved me time and money since I didn’t have to get additional supplies but also meant that I had to do something that was gender neutral.

What you need:

  1. Black Construction Paper
  2. Printer
  3. Printer paper
  4. Paper cutter (scissors will do if you have a steady hand)
  5. Glue
  6. Design cut out

Putting it Together:

  • I printed my message on white paper and glue both sides together. I would suggest doing the final cut after gluing sides together to get a perfect straight line.
  • I then measured how much construction paper I would need and cut many pieces to start (lots of trial and error here on deciding how to make the envelops.)
  • Using a heavy book I created little envelopes, glued the edges and let them dry under the weight of a book.
  • Then I used the design cut out to fancy up the envelope.
  • Finally I addressed them using a metallic marker and voilà!

9 cards, a few supplies and about 4-5 hours of hands-on work. The pictures made it all worth it!

Paperless Weddings – Fun & Easy Video Technology

Tech Is In – Paper Is Out!

Times are changing. Not that long ago couples spent a lot of time choosing the perfect invite for their wedding, paying to have it specially printed with a rice paper insert, carefully writing the addresses out, mailing it to all their guests and then waiting for the RSVP’s to be returned saying whether the guests wanted chicken or fish.  It was what was available and what everyone did.

Today however, more and more couples are concerned about the environment and how much paper is being wasted not only in sending the invites/RSVP’s to hundreds of guests, but also the mega thank you’s that are sent after the wedding not to mention the rising cost of postage prices.

I have participated in many, many wedding shows over the last couple years across Canada and the United States and one of the most frequently asked questions was “Does your wedding website offer video invites?”.  I found most couples to be very conscious of wanting to help save the environment as well as wanting to be able to save money where money could be saved.

Wedding Website Video Technology

Fortunately, I was able to inform the couples of our free wedding themed website with innovative video technology giving them the option to create:

  1. Custom video invitations to their wedding
  2. The ability to send invites in any language they choose
  3. Personal video invites for all pre-wedding events like Bridal Showers, Bachelor(ette) Parties and Stag & Doe’s
  4. Personal video Thank You’s following the wedding

Couple making their video wedding invitesCouples have been very excited about the opportunity to be creative with their personal custom videos as they can:

  1. Consider a themed background when doing the video
  2. Play music
  3. Create personal heartfelt invitations for each guests or group of guests
  4. Show their commitment to producing less waste
  5. Save time in stuffing envelopes, placing postage, writing thank you’s
  6. Cut many costs associated with paper invites/thank you’s

These are Exciting Times !

We at Eventastic.com are very pleased to be able to be in the wedding marketplace where we can offer couples useful and innovative tools to help with their wedding planning. Maybe it’s time you consider using video technology for your invites and or thank you’s. You’ll have fun, save time and money as well as bring your wedding messages to life in a more personal way for all your guests.

Favor Tips for a February Wedding

You’re down to the wire.  Most everything is planned, ordered, fitted and confirmed. Wedding favor ideas and choices have probably come in to the mix somewhere in the previous weeks for the wedding reception and considering that the nuptials are occurring in the ‘Month of Love’ you may have chosen a theme having touches of red or hearts.

Often you may have additional pre-wedding evenings, parties, events, family & friend dinners etc. planned closer to your wedding date where you’d like to express your thanks to all in a small way as they leave the occasion. Keeping with the Valentine’s theme we’ve found some great inexpensive ways for you to share your love and thanks with a small yet memorable momentum. You may choose to give a small gift to each person or one per couple.

Red-velvet-cupcakes-with-roses-horz

1.Personal Cupcakes!

These adorable red velvet cupcakes individually wrapped in a cellophane bag (found at any craft store) would certainly be an appreciated treat. They can be easily made with a gluten free cake recipe and red colouring for any guests with gluten intolerances. Consider placing the cupcake on a tiny coloured paper plate to avoid smudging and tie off the bag with red ribbon for an added touch.

Chocolate covered apple

2. Deco Candy Apple!

Everyone seems to love a candy apple whether it be with the traditional red candy coating  or be one of the super-deluxe gourmet ones you now see covered in chocolate and caramel. Add some of your creative pizazz to the stick with a red rose – like the picture, a small thank you tag or a simple red ribbon.

Love charm

3.  Charm Them!

If it’s a girls evening you could consider a small charm for those attending. Many girls already have charm bracelets for the little momentum but if not the charm could easily be put on a chain or chord. It’s a simple yet meaningful way of having them remember your evening together before the wedding.

4. Functional & Themed!beer opener

If planning an occasion for both ladies and guys you may wish to consider what traditionally has been considered a ‘guy gift’ that both he and she will find useful.  This one not only has the red colour we were hoping to have but also a tiny red heart commemorating the love your share.

It’s a lovely touch to end a special evening prior to the wedding with a little gift. It doesn’t have to be big and extravagant. Just a token to let your guests know how much you appreciate their love, friendship and support just before the wedding.

Have a great day from Eventastic!

The Best Gifts are Cash Gifts

Back in the day, marriage meant setting up the new household, and it was expected that  guests would bring gifts during the wedding and bridal showers that would fill up the  newlywed’s home with kitchen ware, bedding and other household items.

Times have changed and so has the needs and requirements of the modern/new age couple. These days the average age of marriage has risen and some are already living together therefore, their household is all set up. Gifts are the last thing they want for their wedding. Who wants to add on to the clutter in the home? The requirement of traditional gifts has been replaced by the need for cash.

Additionally, the gift of money can also be used by the couple for a variety of other purposes. They may use it for putting a down payment, on a house renovations on their house, retirement savings plan or even for a dream honeymoon vacation. In any case, these options are way better than being gifted the second or maybe even the third blender or toaster.

Couples are constantly looking for ways of asking for cash gifts. This is because asking for cash gifts is still considered to be tacky by many guests. Couples who really want cash gifts are apprehensive to ask fearing they will offend some guests.

EventasticWeddings.comIn reality, guests are always happy to give towards what the couple really needs, be it cash. As part of the etiquette, it is essential for the couple to plan and then inform the guests how they plan to spend their cash gifts. We have the solution for you! Eventastic Weddings has a cash gifting registry where couples can collect cash gifts right on their wedding website from anywhere in the world. Couples can allocate a dollar amount to specific goals and items that they are saving for, e.g down payment on a house, spa day during the honeymoon, kitchen renovation.

1) Smart Budgeting: As the cost of weddings increase, so does the number of people paying for them. If you are one of the lucky few that have financial assistance from friends or family you’ll need to sit down with everyone who is going to contribute to the wedding-day piggy bank and discuss how to logically divide the tab and arrive at a total number.

2) What are Stag N Doe’s or Jack N Jills? A Stag N Doe party or a Jack and Jill party are a party and or fundraiser for an engaged couple to raise money for their wedding. This is a common practice in Canadian weddings and when done well are tasteful and not tacky. The event is usually organized by the bridal party, but in some circumstances may also be held by the engaged couple before they are married. Guests purchase entrance tickets and are entertained by draws, food and drink, music, dancing and games.

3) Fundraiser Ticketing: If you ask anyone who has planned a Stag N Doe or a Jack N Jill, they will tell you the worst part about it was selling the tickets for the event. We have solved this problem. Eventastic Weddings has this amazing online fundraiser ticketing function that will make your event successful and easy. You customize it to your needs, as its all about you.

Thank You Card Etiquette

1) Time Frame for Sending Thank You Cards

Any gifts received for the engagement party or bridal shower should have thank you cards sent within 1 to 2 weeks of the event. For gifts that you receive on the day of your wedding, the thank you cards should be sent out within 2 to 4 weeks of returning home from your honeymoon.

2) Who Should Receive Thank You Cards

Anyone that sent you a gift should receive a thank you card. People will talk if you don’t send one so make sure you thank everyone. Its proper etiquette. You may not know it but your guest will be talking about the lack of thank you they received.  Set the precedent and get them out as soon as possible. Your guest will be offended if you don’t and it will be reflected on future gifts like your wedding gifts.  Keep everyone happy and make them feel good about their generosity.

3) Is there any easier way? Yes! I have the solution for you.

The thank you card process can be tedious: buying thank you cards, remembering who bought you want, buying an endless amount of postage etc… Why not make your life easy and send out video Thanks you’s. Eventastic Weddings has this awesome feature that allows you to see who bought you what gift through your online universal gift registry then record and send them a personalized video thanks-you. Yes its thats easy. Not only are you saving time and money, but your guests will appreciate the personalized thank-you they will receive. Say good bye to writing cramps!

Tradition meets technology- The New way to say Thank-you.
