Benefits and How-To’s of Using a Wedding Planner

I remember getting engaged and while the excitement was abounding, I soon after started feeling overwhelmed by the number of tasks I foresaw would be required to make this wedding happen to everyone’s satisfaction. Every day there seemed to be more and more to consider and plan for and I wanted to cover all the bases with ease and in a timely fashion like my type A personality insisted on. My post-its were everywhere and in retrospect I wonder if hiring a wedding planner would have eased so much of that stress allowing me to have more sleep filled nights.

I’ve talked to so many couples getting married at various stages of their wedding preparation and while many were perfectly comfortable in making all the plans themselves, others were happy to hand all the wedding prep over to a wedding planner who would listen to their wishes and needs and whom they could trust to make the magic happen. I thought about various personalities and whether that played a factor in deciding on hiring a wedding planner. While a bit tongue in cheek, this is what I came up with.

Which Type Are You?

A. You are a detail oriented person that enjoys getting things done ahead of time. Nothing gives you more pleasure than completing a ‘To Do’ list. Spreadsheets are your love language.

B. On your last vacation you planned everything down to the last second including time for brushing your teeth. You visited five countries in three days and brought home personalized souvenirs for your extended family and everyone at the office.

C. You are a great planner with good ideas but don’t mind asking for help in some areas.

D. You are a free spirited optimist that believes everything will be lowered into place on ribbons by wedding fairies whilst you sleep.

E. You never made a decision you liked. If you ask your fiancé one more question about colour blocking or choosing between fuchsia and magenta table runners he or she is going to run screaming for the hills.

Some Benefits Of Having A Wedding Planner

If you answered D or E you might want to consider hiring a wedding planner right away, but anyone can benefit from having a wedding planner.

1. They offer a wide variety of services. Some are willing to plan only certain parts of a wedding which might save on cost and leave those who answered ‘C’ free to plan the aspects they enjoy. Even our ‘A’ and ‘B’ super planners can benefit from having someone else in charge of setup and takedown, leaving them free to enjoy the day.

2. Destination weddings in particular might benefit from having a wedding planner. If they are familiar with the part of the world you’re planning to travel to they can help with documentation, paperwork, and correspondence with the venue operator.

3. Even though planners are themselves an expense, a wedding planner can be very helpful in keeping you on budget. Their contacts with trustworthy vendors may save you time, and because vendors depend on their referrals, dollars as well.

Some Questions To Consider Asking

1. How long have you been a wedding planner?

2. What kind of services and packages do you offer?

3. Are you a member of a professional organization and or the Better Business Bureau?

4. Do you have references I could be in touch with and photos from previous events?

It is up to you to be clear with your potential wedding planner as to what you foresee your wedding day to look like along with budget expectations, and what exactly you are hoping them to do. Do you need help with decor, flowers, photography, pre-wedding parties, rehearsal dinner, organization of out-of-town guests, guest special needs, seating arrangements…? Wedding planners can help you with any part of the concept, organization and execution of your wedding day. They can also be someone who helps you to focus and breathe. Breathing is good!

Encore Wedding, Registry or No Registry?

Great gift ideas for an encore wedding

Second Marriage Gift Registry Thoughts

Time and time again I hear engaged couples say, “Oh this is our second marriage so we won’t be having a gift registry… we really don’t need anything”. When I hear that I think “Hogwash!”  Everyone has little or big dreams of things they would like!

Guests want to give you something to help celebrate your nuptials with your fiancé.  That’s what a wedding registry is for; to help guests choose things for you that will be truly appreciated. Guests want to give to you both so why not make it easier for them!

Think Beyond Household Basics

The fact is, that when couples getting married the second time think of a typical wedding gift registry, they think of towels, cutlery, bedding and kitchen supplies as being on a wedding registry. Like most couples who are getting married for the second or more time, they already have all the basics one would normally think of for first time newlyweds. Let’s face it, they probably are looking at having garage sales to get rid of some of their things they’ve accumulated over the years! Who says though, a wedding gift registry has to be made up of the classic wedding gift items that every first time bride and groom have on their list?

Unique new ideas for your second marriage wedding registry!

Check out our categories of gift registry ideas that might inspire you with some gift thoughts you might not have thought of. With Eventastic cash Guest Funding feature option you simply create your event page and add the Guest Funding option to your page. You’ll simply fill in the popup template with the item details and put a picture relevant to what you would appreciate and when the event page is shared, people are given the option to contribute monies toward it. What a great way of adding more expensive gift option ideas and encourage group gifting to make your wish a reality!

  1. Home Renovation – Have you had thoughts of making changes in your home to make it more suitable or endearing for the two of you? Whether it be new floor, cupboards, taking a wall out, deck, you can give guests the opportunity to give towards a home project you’ve got on your to-do list.
  2. Landscaping Changes – You’d love to have a new walkway or patio? The fire-pit area or dock at the cottage has seen better days? Maybe you have your eyes on a new water feature for your yard. All these make for great things that wedding guests could contribute towards.
  3. Travel Ideas – Whether a small bus tour to a winery, boating trip, honeymoon, vacation away, there is usually some place you have on your bucket list that you’ve yet to see. This is a perfect opportunity for others to contribute toward your goal.
  4. Specialty Items – Would you truly appreciate a bottle of wine from a certain vintage? Cohiba Robusto cigars or a humidor? Camus Cognac Cuvee? GPS for the motorcycle? Money for a course you both want to take?
  5. Donations – Do you have a cause you feel connected to? This is a great opportunity to give to something via your guests donating to it in your name right on your wedding event page!

Think outside the box. There are no hard and fast rules in what you can add to your Eventastic Guest Funding! Keep in mind that wedding guests want to share in the excitement of your special day and it is appreciated by guests when you give them ideas of things you both would love.

Out of the Ordinary Honeymoon Ideas

Newlyweds making memories

Let’s do something different!

Millions of couples get married every year and every one of them look to make their wedding a little different than others they know. Whether it be the theme, decor, dress, venue, food, entertainment, honeymoon or otherwise…. there is an intrinsic need to diversify.

The honeymoon is a holiday taken by newlyweds where they can share a specific time period to focus on and celebrate their new life together as a married couple. Where that vacation occurs varies greatly depending on the couple’s interests and finances. Doing something you’ve never done before with your new spouse is a great way of starting a new chapter in your life along with building all the associated fun stories that will go along with it, making it memorable for a lifetime. Planning something out of the ordinary now just might have your journey together begin with the BANG you’re looking for.

Unconventional honeymoon ideas

All-inclusive southern beach resort honeymoon destinations are always amazing but have you considered something more unconventional?

  1. Fishing Trip – Planning a fishing trip in cottage country or even a deep-sea fishing excursion out of the country could bring you the excitement and great stories you’ll treasure for a life time.
  2. Motorcycle Excursion – Experiencing an adventure while driving a motorcycle to destinations you’ve never experienced can be exhilarating. (Red Rock in Vegas is awesome! – just saying…)
  3. Walking Holiday – There are multiple options of taking walking tours in Europe or other countries where you trek to new locations every day making memories with every step.
  4. Exotic Race Car Racing – Can you imagine returning from your honeymoon with racing skills and shirts to match? Why not!

My own honeymoon was definitely not typical. My fiancé and myself bought a second hand trailer (knowing we wanted to have an affordable summer vacation spot) and spent our honeymoon building a deck for it and roasting spidey dogs over a campfire. Even 24 years later we laugh about our time together that week and the feelings of accomplishment we felt.

Having a Universal Gift Registry with Eventastic Weddings will give you the options of adding not only excursions and trips to your gift wish list but even adding pictures of the deck you’re planning on building! Wedding guests want to help celebrate your new life together by contributing to things you really want.

If you are planning a special trip, why not add a picture of your destination or excursion to your gift wish list under the ‘monetary gifting’ section of your registry and give guests the opportunity to give monies toward it! Planning a unique honeymoon can be more affordable when using Eventastic Weddings registry!

Enjoy!

5 DIY Wedding Favor Ideas Your Guests Will Love!

The practice of giving wedding favors to guests date back to 16th century England where it was reportedly common for newly married couples to give love knots made out of ribbon and lace to all their guests. The tradition has carried on throughout the years with the bride and groom placing trinkets signifying their love at the wedding guests’ reception place settings. These ‘trinkets’ have come in all sizes, themes, and various costs depending on the couple’s choice.

Couples will often buy small ready made gifts for their guests but many times the bride will choose to show her creative side by wanting to make the wedding favors herself. It is not uncommon for the bride and her bridesmaids to plan an evening (or many) to work on their ‘Do-It-Yourself’ favors for all to admire and appreciate at the reception. Some DIY favors can be quite time consuming depending on how extravegant in detail and how many guests will be on the receiving end. Keeping these key features in mind might save you last minute anguish so it is smart to begin your projects early.

Throughout my bridal show travels and attendance at various weddings over the years I have come across some great DIY Wedding Favor ideas and thought I’d share some of my favourites.

  1. Mason Preserve Jars with DIY Cross Stitch Heart Top. Always a treat as a guest to receive a jar of preserves with a handcrafted topper!Great DIY wedding favor ideas!
  2. I have always appreciated receiving plant wedding favors. Pick a small plant/flower of your choice and wrap in burlap & lace as seen below or use fabric with the colours of your wedding. Great wedding favor ideas!
  3. I remember receiving a caramel apple as a wedding favor as both the bride and groom were teachers. It was so cute and delicious! Red candy apples at table settings at black, white and red weddings look amazing!Great DIY wedding favor ideas!
  4. Cupcakes expertly decorated with details of flowers, hearts and lace will always ‘wow’ the guests! If you haven’t perfected your cake decorating skills, no worries! Purchase the cupcakes and add your personal touch by placing in a pretty tea cup on a paper lace doily. Great wedding favor ideas!
  5. Recently I was taken by a couple’s wedding favor where they added a beautiful ribbon to a mini white lantern and inserted a battery-powered votive to be glowing throughout the reception at each place setting. What a beautiful overall look in the dimly lit room! I continue to use and admire it.Great wedding favor idea!

iStock_000028094024MediumThere are so many options when considering having favors at your wedding. What you end up choosing will likely depend on how they will add to the overall look you are going for when guests enter the reception, cost, time required to have them ready, amount of assistance you will need and have, availability etc.

We at Eventastic hope you enjoy your journey in choosing the favors best suited for you and your wedding. For more great wedding favor ideas check out our Wedding Favors Pinterest Board.

Top Bridal Bouquet Picks for Your Wedding

Bridal bouquets come in many colours, shapes and sizes.Way back in ancient times, a bride carrying a bouquet of fragrant flowers and spices was a way of ensuring her sweet smell on her wedding day.  In some cultures, carrying a bouquet was a way of warding off evil spirits.  The tradition has carried on to present day where brides continue to carry flowers to varying degrees; not to cover up any unwanted odours like in the past, but to further adorn her look with her favourite flowers as she walks down the aisle to the love of her life. Bridal bouquets come in a very wide assortment of colours, sizes and shapes.  Choosing flowers whether a single stem or a full display is one of the joys a bride-to-be has in preparing for her wedding.

I have a number of weddings to attend this year and I am excited to see the current bridal choices for flowers and bouquets. I guess it’s the gardener and event planner in me that finds it fascinating and inspiring to see what their personal likes are and maybe get inspired for future blogs, events (centrepieces/decor) and even what to plant in my own gardens. While completely a personal choice and preference for each bride, there are certainly bouquet styles that seem to be trending with brides everywhere.

Whether soft romantic neutrals, tropical stunner or another favourite, the bouquet of your choice will be remembered for years to come as your personal touch harmonizing with your gown as you walked down the aisle.

Top 10 Ideas To Encourage Bridesmaid Bonding

BridesmaidsWe probably all know the movie “Bridesmaids” and have had many laughs over the girls and their differences. It’s a reality that brides, when choosing her bridesmaids, will not pick a group of girls that have all chummed together and know each other well. The bride has chosen various people to be in her wedding party that have a special place in her heart and life. While the goal is not that all those chosen become besties, it is a lot less stressful when they can all get along, ‘celebrate’ their differences, and join together to create fun and memorable experiences not only for the wedding day but also any pre-wedding parties.

It can be especially helpful for the bride to coordinate times for her bridesmaids to be together prior to the wedding. Not only does this help them to get to know each other, it allows them the opportunity to exchange phone numbers and any information that subsequently may help in possibly planning any pre-wedding events together.  Each bridesmaid will have special characteristics and possibly talents that will be very helpful in preparing for the big day and while the bride may already know each one’s traits, it will be good for her attendants to learn this too. There are many ways of bringing everyone together for an afternoon or evening of fun and ‘bonding time’. You obviously won’t want to plan things on a weekly basis as you don’t want to ‘over do it’ and coordinating schedules can be a challenge but we thought we would give some ideas you could consider between your engagement and wedding day.

Bridesmaid Bonding Ideas

  1. Dress Shopping – Have an idea of style and colour prior to your excursion.
  2. Movie Night – Whether in or out at the movies; popcorn, drinks & laughs are always welcome.
  3. Wedding Website Session – Whether helping to establish it or not it is important that they know all the features so as to tell other friends, family & guests how to maneuver around the site and get all the information.
  4. Wedding Favour Time – Are you thinking a DIY guest favour? This is a great reason to get assistance & input!
  5. Cookie Exchange – Everyone loves getting a dozen cookies. Picking a theme makes it even more fun.
  6. Bachelorette Party – Classically involves dressing up and doing some bar hopping creating stories and memories with every stop.
  7. Spa Day – Manicures, pedicures, facials etc. all help everyone relax and feel good. (Do it at home or some places allow you to bring in a bottle of wine!)
  8. Wine and Cheese Party – Discuss wedding preparations, progress or to plan and coordinate a pre-wedding party like a ‘Stag and Doe’ or ‘Shower’ and decide on dates and who does what.
  9. Cooking Class Evening – Coordinate a night where everyone can get together to learn to cook a special dish.
  10. Special Occasion Get together – Like filling Easter baskets together, or decorating Victoria Day cookies, or having a beach day etc.

Bridesmaids having funIt is the bride’s worst nightmare to have bridesmaids that are difficult and the last thing the bride has time for is to play mediator between all involved. Hopefully those chosen for this special role in the wedding will do their best to make themselves available for times together and learn to appreciate any differences that arise. These are opportunities to make more memories, have fun times together prior to the big day and possibly build new friendships. Have fun! You can even do your ‘Bonding Day’ invite on your Eventastic Weddings themed website and send to all the bridesmaids!

How to Make a Bridal Shower Recipe Book

Over the last couple years, I have attended many bridal showers and i’ve noticed a trend in the organizers requesting guests to email their personal best recipes prior to the shower. The organizer(s) then assembles a special cookbook of recipe favourites to be presented to the bride-to-be on the day of the shower. Note: If you are a bride reading this, then consider forwarding to your wedding party participants. 🙂

Love to cookEvery new bride comes into the marriage with some of her own recipe favourites but based off the reactions i’ve witnessed, it seems everyone appreciates receiving a book/binder prepared by friends/loved ones containing all their popular choices whether it’s a first marriage or not. Planning and executing the cookbook can be as simple or extravagant as you choose.  Here are some simple suggestions to get you started.

5 Steps To An Awesome Recipe Book

  1. Purchase a binder with clear sleeve on the front to easily slide in a label, maybe a printed picture or caricature of the couple
  2. Buy plastic sleeve 3-hole inserts and dividers (easily wipeable for spills) and arrange in the binder with categories such as; Drinks, Breakfast Ideas, Appetizers, Soups & Salads, Main Meals, Breads & Muffins, Cookies & Squares and Pies & Cakes. Fun idea: Put a picture of a delectable dish relevant to the category as the cover page for each section.
  3. Send your Eventastic shower invite to guests; requesting they send you one or more of their favourite recipes to be included in the recipe book. Make sure to ask that they include a picture of the dish and have the recipe to you, the organizer, by a certain date to give you time to put it together. To make it even easier for guests you can click ‘Allow Photo Sharing’ and ask guests to simply share a photo of their specific recipe right on the shower invitation page.
  4. Plan an afternoon or evening of fun to put the book together and have everyone (if more than you organizing)bring recipes of their own to top up every category. Decide whether you will be retyping the recipes in a particular font or use as is.
  5. Wrap the recipe book in a tea towel tied with string. Rather than a typical bow, you could top it off with spatulas or other cooking tools.

Often when we are at a friend or family member’s home we enjoy a great meal and would love to be able to replicate it in our own home. Having a book with favourites already tested and known to be popular is a real treat for any bride-to-be. There have definitely been a few times when I left these showers wishing I could have had a copy of the book she received!

So, if you’re planning a bridal shower turn on your creative side and consider making a bridal shower recipe book.  Remember it’s ok to delegate any artistic jobs to those with particular talents that will be participating. Have fun. I know she’ll enjoy it!

Paperless Weddings – Fun & Easy Video Technology

Tech Is In – Paper Is Out!

Times are changing. Not that long ago couples spent a lot of time choosing the perfect invite for their wedding, paying to have it specially printed with a rice paper insert, carefully writing the addresses out, mailing it to all their guests and then waiting for the RSVP’s to be returned saying whether the guests wanted chicken or fish.  It was what was available and what everyone did.

Today however, more and more couples are concerned about the environment and how much paper is being wasted not only in sending the invites/RSVP’s to hundreds of guests, but also the mega thank you’s that are sent after the wedding not to mention the rising cost of postage prices.

I have participated in many, many wedding shows over the last couple years across Canada and the United States and one of the most frequently asked questions was “Does your wedding website offer video invites?”.  I found most couples to be very conscious of wanting to help save the environment as well as wanting to be able to save money where money could be saved.

Wedding Website Video Technology

Fortunately, I was able to inform the couples of our free wedding themed website with innovative video technology giving them the option to create:

  1. Custom video invitations to their wedding
  2. The ability to send invites in any language they choose
  3. Personal video invites for all pre-wedding events like Bridal Showers, Bachelor(ette) Parties and Stag & Doe’s
  4. Personal video Thank You’s following the wedding

Couple making their video wedding invitesCouples have been very excited about the opportunity to be creative with their personal custom videos as they can:

  1. Consider a themed background when doing the video
  2. Play music
  3. Create personal heartfelt invitations for each guests or group of guests
  4. Show their commitment to producing less waste
  5. Save time in stuffing envelopes, placing postage, writing thank you’s
  6. Cut many costs associated with paper invites/thank you’s

These are Exciting Times !

We at Eventastic.com are very pleased to be able to be in the wedding marketplace where we can offer couples useful and innovative tools to help with their wedding planning. Maybe it’s time you consider using video technology for your invites and or thank you’s. You’ll have fun, save time and money as well as bring your wedding messages to life in a more personal way for all your guests.

DIY Spa Ideas for the Bride & Bridesmaids

You’re getting married! Congratulations! While you’re making all the plans and arrangements for your wedding it is important not to forget the most important thing! Your health!  There are things you can do right now in preparation for your wedding day even if it’s way off in the distance to help ensure you are healthy and glowing on your special day.  Here’s a few tips to help you along.

Coconut Oil has become a popular effective item to use as a moisturizer on your body.  You’ll avoid dry skin if you apply right after showering and the not too greasy texture and amazing tropical scent will be relaxing for you as well.

Coconut Oil for Better Health

Soaking your feet in vinegar is a great remedy for softening callused soles and dealing with problems like toenail fungus.  Follow the daily soak with a lotion containing urea for baby soft feet.

Everyone should have a bright white smile and here’s a little trick in getting those chicklets pearly white. Baking soda is something you usually have in your kitchen cupboards but make sure you also have a box in your bathroom right next to your toothbrush. Dipping your toothbrush in the baking soda poured on the palm of your hand and gently brushing for a minute every day will gradually lighten the colour of your teeth.

Bright white smile

Soft hands are a necessity for all the hand shaking you’ll be doing as well as not wanting any runs in those stockings.  A great way to achieve the softest hands is by pouring a small amount of olive oil into your palm already holding a couple tablespoons of granulated white sugar. Rub the palms of your hands together mixing the oil and sugar and now include all of your fingers in the mix.  Vigorously rub for a minute, rinse, and then follow with two drops of vitamin E rubbed all over your hands and fingers.  Voila! Soft, beautiful hands.

Tastefully Include Cash Gifting For Your Wedding

Let’s face it, while the fertility statue from Fiji that your Mother-in-law is thinking about giving you as a wedding present would be, um, interesting, you’d really rather have the cash.

Eventastic has tons of non-gift related features to make your wedding planning a snap but probably no other single feature will be as useful as the cash gifting option.

As you’ll see , asking for cash gifts is easy and it will be fun & satisfying for your guests.

With Eventastic you can choose to have cash gifting in conjunction with a wedding gift registry with items from any store anywhere or you can convert your wedding registry to cash gifts only.  When you set up your cash gift registry, if you wish you can leave a general message to set the tone and also an individual message explaining each cash gift item that you have listed.  This way people will understand each request on a personal level.  If you are having a larger wedding make sure you add a lot of ideas thus giving guests greater choices.  They’ll wish they had an option like this when they got married!

Many couples getting married nowadays are already well set up with household items but they could use a hand with the cost of other things like putting in those hardwood floors or new counter tops.  You could even have guests contributing towards a down payment for your first home together, honeymoon or home renovations.  If this is a second marriage you could put money towards a larger home for your blended family or list a registered educational savings plan for your children’s future!

Cash gifts are a great option for destination weddings where gifts just aren’t practical.  Your guests could contribute towards honeymoon activities like hang gliding, a day at the spa or extending the vacation.  No matter what kind of honeymoon you have planned you can cash out early and use the money for your trip.

If you are feeling particularly blessed consider stating you will give a portion of the cash gifts to a charity that is dear to your heart.

Remember that even if you choose to have a cash only main wedding registry, you can have other individual gift registries on your site for other wedding events like showers.

The possibilities are virtually unlimited and cash given this way could not be more personal.  Your guests will be pleased to know they are giving what you really want, making it a wonderfully meaningful gift.  They will have a real sense of pride and ownership in making your life together the happiest it can be.

We hope this has been helpful.

Wedding Shower Tips

Wedding showers are some of the most exciting pre-wedding parties that entail gift giving in anticipation for the big day. Wedding showers are usually hosted by friends, family, workmates etc, bringing various groups of people together for fun, nibbles, memories, gift giving and celebrating of the wedding day to come. It is not unusual for there to be multiple showers planned within a couple months of the wedding. There are a few aspects of shower planning that brides can and should be involved in to help with its overall success.
We at Eventastic Weddings have a few tips on wedding showers for you to ponder in terms of preference and then share with your wedding party or those most likely to host.
1. What type of shower do you prefer?
In the past, wedding showers were actually bridal showers where only the bride attended with those throwing/attending the party and the groom/fiance’s job was to arrive at the end and start hauling out all the gifts to the car. Today times have changed and now it is not unusual to have couple’s showers where both attend and enjoy the festivities. It’s a good idea to let your friends and family know your thoughts and preferences whether traditional or not.
2. Do you have a particular theme you wish for?
It is always fun when showers are hosted with a particular theme in mind. Often themes are chosen taking into consideration the bride or couple’s interests and likes or trying to capture a particular mood or feeling. Themes range from “Garden Party” (guests sip on tea or martini’s in a beautiful garden setting) to “Spa Party” (guests enjoy time together having facials or mani/pedi) to “Candy Party” (where every kind of candy is displayed in interesting ways for all to sample) to “Glamour Party” (where each guest is given a colourful boa as they walk the red carpet). If you have a particular theme wish now is the time to share it.
3. What are your thoughts on venue?
Your shower may take place in a beautiful garden either public or private, or be planned in someone’s home or even at the office. It may occur at the retirement home making it easy for grandma to attend or at a hall depending on numbers being invited. If you know of relatives and friends that would want to attend one of your showers but have special requirements because of disability or otherwise now is the time to let those most likely to plan know.
4. Do you have food preferences?
Food for showers sometimes will involve a meal but most often it is an afternoon of great nibbles, both sweet and otherwise. If you totally dislike or have developed allergies/sensitivities for certain foods now is the time to make that known. Shower hosts might ask various people to contribute to a potluck style of gathering or even arrange to have it catered and the last thing you need is hives or upset stomach at the end of the day.
5. What are your thoughts on games?
Shower planners often arrange to have party games played at the shower to keep the mood happy and lively as well as assist everyone in mingling and mixing. There are endless options to be played. Have you heard of the toilet paper bridal gown and veil game? Guests are divided in groups and asked to pick one person from their group to don the wedding ensemble made out of toilet paper. If there is a shower you’ve attended in the past and loved playing a game or found it effective then this is the time to share ..or…if you dislike all games at showers you might want to mention this.
6. Have you started your shower registry?
At this point you have had some time to peruse your free wedding website and no doubt are thrilled with having your universal gift registry option. Any item from anywhere can be added to your wedding registry from surfing the net on your computer AND by using Eventastic Weddings APP downloadable through any APP store for any smartphone. We suggest that you make not only your “Wedding Registry” of items for your guests to see but ALSO one or multiple “Shower Registry” lists. Shower registry items would typically be items that are lower priced or group buy options.

It’s important that your shower planners get your thoughts on these aspects to help in its success. Remember that your shower could be added to your events page to made invites easier and could even have a ticketing option to help pay for some of the costs. (Your planners will love that!)
Have fun uploading all your shower pictures to a “shower album” on your wedding website for everyone to enjoy!

Wedding Guest List Tips for You

Hi there! So it’s time for you and your fiancé to sit down and begin discussing your wedding guest list. This is an exciting moment as you will talk about who will have the great fortune to attend and witness the most wonderful day EVER!

While exciting, this moment sometimes can be stressful as you go through the multitudes of names and realize that you just won’t be able to invite everyone.  We at Eventastic Weddings have some tips to help you through this process.  We hope this will be helpful.

1. Remember Your Budget

You and your fiancé have hopefully already discussed your wedding budget and if not it is time to do so. Once you establish that monetary number and incorporate things like costs for ceremony, reception, attire, rings, flowers, music, photography, transportation, honeymoon etc. it is easier to narrow down how many people you can afford to have at the dinner/reception.  Sometimes couples end up rethinking the costs of some of the other cost categories in order to be able to invite the number of guests they truly want in attendance.

2.  Guest List Spreadsheet

It is so helpful to have a spreadsheet with categories such as Name, Address, Email, Invite Sent, RSVP, Total #Attendees, #Children, Category(bride, groom, work, friends), Events (pre-wedding parties), Priority(A/B), Seating(#table at reception), Food Choice and Gift.  Start by listing everyone on the bride’s side, then fiancé’s side, then friends and work etc. to keep it organized and easier to manage.

3.  Parents Wishes

Always discuss the wedding guest list with your respective parents.  Parents will always want some of their closest friends in attendance to help celebrate your big day.  Also, mom and dad will usually remember relatives that you haven’t seen in awhile and may have forgotten to add to the list but MUST be at the wedding.  Sometimes mom & dad will chip in on costs if numbers are over and above what you can afford.

4.  Children

Discussion around whether you will have children at your wedding reception is a must.  Talk around potential child attendees, ages, behaviours, venue etc. can all play a part in whether you will allow your cousin to bring her quintuplets.  Remember it’s your day and your choice.

5.  Prioritize

When filling out your spreadsheet, having a “Priority” category is very helpful. Putting an “A” for essential family members,”B” for extended family and “C” for colleagues & friends will help to narrow down the numbers at a later date if necessary.

6.  Be Considerate

Remember that people can sometimes have very strong feelings around who they would like to attend the wedding.  It is important that while you try to keep the numbers manageable you be considerate of your fiancés and parents’ wishes.  Making a point of telling everyone in the beginning that while you would love to invite the Queen of England if just won’t be possible to have everyone there.
