The Hunt for the 2014 Bridesmaid Dress

When you’ve been asked to be a bridesmaid for a wedding it is quite an honour. Most want to please the bride; not ruffle feathers and wear what the bride has in mind for one of the most memorable days of her life. Let’s be honest though….as a bridesmaid you would love the dress to be if not affordable at least one that you will have the opportunity to wear again.

If you’re like me, you likely have many bridesmaid dresses hanging in your closet, most of which are satin, poofy and in colours and styles that long haven’t been considered fashionable and probably won’t be for many years to come.

Times are changing and so are brides!

While it is still very common for brides to have their vision and ask for the full support of her girls, it is becoming more and more common for the bride to provide a few parameters, such as colour, length and fabrics, and let the girls pick the dress to their liking.

The dress you want to rewear

Other than colour and the few other parameters the bride provides, landing yourself a bridesmaid dress that you will likely wear again is becoming more popular, the trick is getting the girls to decide on dresses from the same collection.

Whether a special gala, or upscale cocktail party, here are a few dresses that designers are showing for 2014 which I would love to have hanging in my closet after a close friend’s wedding.

Tulle & Chantilly

Tulle & Chantilly has this amazing chiffon strapless dress with a flattering sweetheart neckline and it comes in over 100 colour options. So whether you are looking for colours like ‘papaya whip’, ‘passion’, ‘cobalt’ or even ‘black’ you would look fabulous attending your post-wedding soiree in style.

Bridal companies have great selections in fabrics, colours and styles and once you decide whether to go long, short or mid-calf the world is your oyster.

These shorter bridesmaid dresses caught my eye from Allurebridals.com. As you can see from the picture below, any one of them would be a dress you could easily wear to another function.Allure Bridals

Vera WangIf you’re more of a contemporary chic fashionista, then you’ll probably be hoping that the bride and other bridesmaids will considered dresses like Vera Wang is showing for 2014.

With so  many necklines, colours, lengths, and fabrics there is really a colossal combination of styles you can mix and match to find the perfect dresses… be careful though, too many options could make narrowing down the perfect choice much harder.

The Hunt is half the fun

I know half the fun for me in searching for the perfect bridesmaid dress was the girl get-togethers that went with the hunt; the chats, the giggles, the excitement… Take the time to enjoy this special honour you have been given and hopefully everyone will work together to pick a dress that is suitable for all and can be worn at future occasions. Happy hunting and remember, it’s the brides big day even if that means you need to sacrifice your style and adopt hers.
