Is It Ok To Ask For Money On Your Wedding Registry?

EventasticWeddings.com Cash Gifting RegistryWe have had great fun speaking with couples getting married all over the world and time and time again the discussion arises as to whether it is ok to ask for money when getting married.

Younger, first marriage couples like either option of having both packaged gifts and money given as gifts for their wedding. Couples that are established in homes with all the basics and couples getting married the second time say they would like to be able to add a few gift items to their registry they’ve yet to acquire, but more often they prefer cash gifts.

Cash gifting at weddings has been around forever but couples said they found it difficult to find tactful ways of asking for money. Being able to request monies by telling guests what they plan to apply the funds to is much more palatable for the couple and the guests. Guests want to give something useful at a wedding and what better way than to be given options that the couple are saving towards and would truly appreciate.

Here are the top categories of cash gifts that couples added to their Guest Funding feature on Eventastic.

  1. Home Reno: A new home doesn’t always mean a new home. Often there are changes to the home the couple has on a wish list and why not add a new kitchen, wood flooring, new deck etc. to your registry.
  2. Experience Gift: Whether a cooking class, fitness membership, photography course…there are always things we would like to learn more about.
  3. Honeymoon: The honeymoon and subsequent excursion trips can be costly. Couples loved having the opportunity to put pictures with descriptions of their plans/wishes and have guests contribute thus making it more affordable.
  4. Vacations: Aside from the honeymoon there are always places we would like to experience. Never been to New York and would love a weekend away? This is a great opportunity to put a picture with description of the place or a site and have guests help you get there.
  5. Funds: Educational funds and retirement funds were top on the list.
  6. Charity: Couples loved having the opportunity to give to a charity of their choice following the wedding

So the answer to the question “Is it ok to ask for money on your wedding registry?”…..ABSOLUTELY!

Second Marriage Gift Registry Thoughts

Time and time again I hear engaged couples say, “Oh this is our second marriage so we won’t be having a gift registry… we really don’t need anything”. When I hear that I think “Hogwash!”  Everyone has little or big dreams of things they would like!

Guests want to give you something to help celebrate your nuptials with your fiancé.  That’s what a wedding registry is for; to help guests choose things for you that will be truly appreciated. Guests want to give to you both so why not make it easier for them!

Think Beyond Household Basics

The fact is, that when couples getting married the second time think of a typical wedding gift registry, they think of towels, cutlery, bedding and kitchen supplies as being on a wedding registry. Like most couples who are getting married for the second or more time, they already have all the basics one would normally think of for first time newlyweds. Let’s face it, they probably are looking at having garage sales to get rid of some of their things they’ve accumulated over the years! Who says though, a wedding gift registry has to be made up of the classic wedding gift items that every first time bride and groom have on their list?

  1. Home Renovation – Have you had thoughts of making changes in your home to make it more suitable or endearing for the two of you? Whether it be new floor, cupboards, taking a wall out, deck, you can give guests the opportunity to give towards a home project you’ve got on your to-do list.
  2. Landscaping Changes – You’d love to have a new walkway or patio? The fire-pit area or dock at the cottage has seen better days? Maybe you have your eyes on a new water feature for your yard. All these make for great things that wedding guests could contribute towards.
  3. Travel Ideas – Whether a small bus tour to a winery, boating trip, honeymoon, vacation away, there is usually some place you have on your bucket list that you’ve yet to see. This is a perfect opportunity for others to contribute toward your goal.
  4. Specialty Items – Would you truly appreciate a bottle of wine from a certain vintage? Cohiba Robusto cigars or a humidor? Camus Cognac Cuvee? GPS for the motorcycle? Money for a course you both want to take?
  5. Donations – Do you have a cause you feel connected to? This is a great opportunity to give to something via your guests donating to it in your name right on your wedding event page!

Think outside the box. There are no hard and fast rules in what you can add to your Eventastic Guest Funding! Keep in mind that wedding guests want to share in the excitement of your special day and it is appreciated by guests when you give them ideas of things you both would love.

Event Privacy Appreciated by Celebrities

Your Free Wedding Website www.eventasticweddings.com

There are some people ‘fortunate’ enough to have so much popularity that billions of people want to know their every move. It’s great when celebrities choose to oblige their fans by sharing some of their personal information with the public but there are many times where they need and want their privacy when it comes to personal matters. Celebrities aren’t the only ones that appreciate privacy with respect to certain events in their lives. We all have our reasons.

While the definition of ‘event’ indicates a planned occasion of some importance fostering social contact, we all know that doesn’t mean all events are made open to the general public by organizers.  Sometimes it’s a closed event. Eventastic.com and EventasticWeddings.com recognizes that people plan events regularly where a specific guest list is created and only those on that list are made privy to the event information and invited to attend. It’s no surprise that people like Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds or Kanye and Kim wouldn’t want their registry lists or photos viewable by the general public.

It was important to us to provide options to our users. By allowing for wedding events made on the Eventastic Weddings platform to be made ‘public’ or ‘private’, the attraction for those wanting to be discreet in planning their wedding has been widely appreciated and welcomed. Those with high profiles are able to create invites to their events/parties privately whether for personal reasons or otherwise.

When people create their wedding website on EventasticWeddings.com or other events and parties on Eventastic.com they must click a box on their planning page whether they wish their event to be ‘public’ or ‘private’. In so doing, if the creator clicks ‘private’, the event will NOT be searchable by the public under the “Find Event” tab on the website. Only potential guests who have been sent the URL to the event will be made aware of the wedding or event page and its details.

Wedding planners, high profile individuals and Corporations who host employees events all over the world  have shared their clients’ appreciation of our company’s sensitivity to their wishes and needs of privacy. With Eventastic providing the ticketing software to the Bridal Showplace Bridal Show with David Tutera in California last year and this year, attendees continue to express their excitement to learn of the Eventastic Weddings and Eventastic website and how helpful it was to the planning of their event and sharing important details with guests.

If you are thinking of planning an event that involves ticketing or registration don’t hesitate. There is no other software out there that does what this does AND it is free to use for free events.

How to Create a Universal Gift Registry for your Wedding

There is this tradition that when a couple in love decides to get married, those attending the wedding to witness the joyous occasion, want to express their happiness for the couple by gifting them something. Somewhere back in time, someone (and I’m sure if they were living would want me to state their name; but I can’t… so I won’t) came up with the idea of the couple having a list of gift ideas to be shared with the wedding guests so the gifts they received would be what they needed and wanted. This ‘list‘ was called a ‘Wedding Registry‘.

The ‘Universal Gift Registry’

Over time the Wedding Registry concept was adopted by large department stores where couples could go to the store and make a list of items from that particular store which they would like to receive for their wedding.  Guests then were told about the store Registry and they could go and choose an item to buy off the list ensuring the couple would be happy with their wedding present. While seemingly flawless, this method did have its downfalls as brides and grooms wanted to have a large enough list for guests to browse but often didn’t want to add all their gift choices from one store and subsequently were adding random items just to fill the list. Many times they were gift options that the couple really didn’t want or need. Sometimes couples would make registries at various stores but that too became time consuming for both the couple and their guests.

Enter the ‘Universal Gift Registry‘! A ‘Universal Gift Registry’ allows the couple to make one list of gift wish items. ANY item, from ANY store, ANYWHERE to be shared with their wedding guests! There are no restrictions. Eventastic.com has developed a Universal Gift Registry on their Free Wedding Themed Website that they offer all couples getting married. Couples are able to add any gift ideas to the gift registry section of the event:

  1. Simply create a free account with Eventastic.com
  2. Click to create an event, name your party/event (i.e. Work Wedding Shower), choose a theme (which provides you suggested default cover photos for your invite)
  3. By clicking and adding features in the side menu you create your event and add a gift registry to that event.  They may then
  4. Add any items seen by filling in the item details in the template provided.

So whether at home surfing the net and seeing something you would like as a gift, or out and about, you can easily add as many gifts as you’d like to your wedding gift registry; ensuring they are all gifts that are truly wanted and/or needed.

Eventastic also gives couples the option of having multiple gift registries on their wedding website. Varying gift ideas of varying cost points for wedding showers and other pre-wedding events may be added to different pre-wedding events created on their Eventastic account.

Guests are invited by the couple to go on their wedding website link, view the actual wedding event page with gift registry as well as connected pre-wedding party event pages with gift registries listed and choose an item they wish to purchase.

Eventastic.com recognizes that couples find monetary gifts very helpful and have provided them the option of having a Cash Gifting/Guest Gifting section to their wedding website. The bride and groom are able to tactfully ask for money contributions towards any items they are saving towards whether they be honeymoon, vacations, RRSP’s, home reno’s, child education funds, charity donations etc…

We are very pleased to be able to offer engaged couples the newest technology for weddings and serve their wedding registry needs.

Don’t Be Shy With Your Gift Registry!

I recently was invited to a wedding and to my dismay the couple had added not more than 20 items to their gift registry. There were 200 people invited to attend the wedding. You do the math…. there was very little choice for guests to consider and not knowing the couple very well made it even more difficult to shop for something special.

You’re guests will appreciate options!

Whether the couple is wanting wedding gifts or not,  wedding guests will always want to buy the bride and groom a gift to express their happiness with the couple’s decision to marry.  Most times it is difficult for the guests to really know the couple’s likes, needs and wishes. Guests will always appreciate the opportunity to browse a suggested wedding gift list (wedding registry) to make their choice in gift buying easier and know they are buying something that will truly be appreciated.

The average wedding guest list has between 200 and 250 people. Considering the ‘couple factor’ there needs to be at least 125 gifts listed in a wedding registry for this size of attendance in order to be helpful to your guests (and you receiving the gifts). Typically, a wedding guest will spend between $75 – $125 while family members often spend around $150 for a wedding present. Having gift ideas in these price ranges is imperative.  Lower priced items are also a good idea as they give guests the options of doing a combo of presents.  You can also include even higher priced items thus giving guests options of going together with other couples on a gift.

My philosophy is that you can never have too many gift choices on your wedding registry but you can certainly have too few!

Gift categories to inspire you

EventasticWeddings.com has a Universal Gift Registry!I hear brides say all too often at the multitude of wedding shows I’ve attended, “I don’t know what to put on my registry” or “I’m not doing a registry because this is my second marriage and I already have my cutlery and towels”.  You have a ‘Universal Gift Registry” on your Eventastic website. Don’t be shy! Go crazy with your gift registry so guests aren’t at a loss for what to give. While Eventastic wedding themed website gives couples the added features on their wedding website to tactfully request cash for their wedding and donations to charities, you may want to consider these 10 gift categories when adding actual gifts to your registry.

  1. Kitchen – appliances, cappuccino maker, indoor grill etc.
  2. Home – furniture, lighting, decor, cleaning, reno supplies etc.
  3. Garage – organizers, tool chests, power tools, bicycles etc.
  4. Yard – lawnmower, leafblower, trees & shrubbery etc.
  5. Electronics – T.V.’s, projectors, cameras, GPS, stereo etc.
  6. Deck – barbecue, furniture, accessories, pots etc.
  7. Fitness – weights, elliptical, exercise bike, Fitbits etc.
  8. Travel – luggage, clothing steamers etc.
  9. Fun/Hobby – motorcycle accessories, golf gifts, camping supplies etc.
  10. Specialty Items – cigars, liquors, wines etc.

If you are the type of person who prefers shopping and trying out a product before purchasing then the cash gifting option on your wedding website is perfect for some items. On your wedding website on Eventastic Weddings, simply type in the amount you are wishing to receive along with a picture of the gift (like vacation, home reno, fence) and guests can then contribute monies toward that item right on your wedding website thus still giving the guests options for gifting.

Eventastic has made it easy for couples making their wedding themed event page to use the gift registry feature and make lists of gift ideas they would truly appreciate whether it be an actual gift item or monies to put toward something in particular they are wishing for. Guests appreciate being given lots of gift options. It’s a win win for everyone. Check out more of our ideas for your wedding registry on our Pinterest Board entitled ‘Wedding Registry Ideas‘.

5 Wedding Registry Tips for the Groom ensuring all bases are covered!

So often it’s the bride that takes over many of the wedding detail decisions.  Sometimes it’s because she wants to have it her way and sometimes it’s because the fiancé is just not that interested in colour options, cutlery and flower choices.

Well, if there is one thing the groom needs to be involved with it is the wedding registry!  We do wedding trade shows all over the world and we hear over and over again from brides and grooms that there is nothing better than when both get involved with the wedding registry choices because both often come from a different mindset as to what the couple will need to begin their lives together.

The bride will often have endless ideas of what the couple will need for inside the home, like kitchen gadgets, glassware & small appliances, bedding, vacuum cleaner and even bigger appliances.  The groom often will think of needs for the couple that will be generally for outdoor use which are handy, useful and cool to have.

We’ve come up with 5 Wedding Registry Category Tip Ideas for Grooms to make sure your Wedding Registry bases are covered.

  1. Yard Supplies – You’ll most likely benefit from having a trusty state of the art leaf blower & lawnmower as well as any gardening tools like shovel, rake, wheelbarrow and edger to name a few.
  2. BBQ Supplies – Check out what the latest gadgets are for your BBQ like a light that fits your handle, grill scrapers, BBQ utensils and even an actual BBQ if you’re in need or a tailgater version for weekend camping dates.
  3. Tools – Even if you’re both not the handiest with a hammer, there are certain home tools you should always have on hand. A brand new tool kit covering all the basics is always handy and make sure to add any drills, sanders and even workbench to your registry list.
  4. Vehicle Needs – Anything car or truck related that you just don’t have the money to put in to right now but you sure would benefit from having – new wiper blades, trailer hitch, floor mats, box liner, charger, stereo etc…
  5. Home Renovation Needs – Maybe you can see that updating a few things in the home is beyond a want but has become a need…or maybe it would make it more comfortable and enjoyable.  Home Renos can be costly so why not add your new hardwood floor or kitchen countertop to your registry.

We at Eventastic hope these 5 category suggestions will help you round out your Wedding Registry with items you will need for both inside and outside your home.  Guests want to buy you gifts that you both truly need and want.  Now is the time to be sharing those ideas with others by both of you adding your wishes to your Wedding Registry. Have fun and be creative.

Happy adding to their Wedding Registry

Tastefully Include Cash Gifting For Your Wedding

Let’s face it, while the fertility statue from Fiji that your Mother-in-law is thinking about giving you as a wedding present would be, um, interesting, you’d really rather have the cash.

Eventastic has tons of non-gift related features to make your wedding planning a snap but probably no other single feature will be as useful as the cash gifting option.

As you’ll see , asking for cash gifts is easy and it will be fun & satisfying for your guests.

With Eventastic you can choose to have cash gifting in conjunction with a wedding gift registry with items from any store anywhere or you can convert your wedding registry to cash gifts only.  When you set up your cash gift registry, if you wish you can leave a general message to set the tone and also an individual message explaining each cash gift item that you have listed.  This way people will understand each request on a personal level.  If you are having a larger wedding make sure you add a lot of ideas thus giving guests greater choices.  They’ll wish they had an option like this when they got married!

Many couples getting married nowadays are already well set up with household items but they could use a hand with the cost of other things like putting in those hardwood floors or new counter tops.  You could even have guests contributing towards a down payment for your first home together, honeymoon or home renovations.  If this is a second marriage you could put money towards a larger home for your blended family or list a registered educational savings plan for your children’s future!

Cash gifts are a great option for destination weddings where gifts just aren’t practical.  Your guests could contribute towards honeymoon activities like hang gliding, a day at the spa or extending the vacation.  No matter what kind of honeymoon you have planned you can cash out early and use the money for your trip.

If you are feeling particularly blessed consider stating you will give a portion of the cash gifts to a charity that is dear to your heart.

Remember that even if you choose to have a cash only main wedding registry, you can have other individual gift registries on your site for other wedding events like showers.

The possibilities are virtually unlimited and cash given this way could not be more personal.  Your guests will be pleased to know they are giving what you really want, making it a wonderfully meaningful gift.  They will have a real sense of pride and ownership in making your life together the happiest it can be.

We hope this has been helpful.

Wedding Shower Tips

Wedding showers are some of the most exciting pre-wedding parties that entail gift giving in anticipation for the big day. Wedding showers are usually hosted by friends, family, workmates etc, bringing various groups of people together for fun, nibbles, memories, gift giving and celebrating of the wedding day to come. It is not unusual for there to be multiple showers planned within a couple months of the wedding. There are a few aspects of shower planning that brides can and should be involved in to help with its overall success.
We at Eventastic Weddings have a few tips on wedding showers for you to ponder in terms of preference and then share with your wedding party or those most likely to host.
1. What type of shower do you prefer?
In the past, wedding showers were actually bridal showers where only the bride attended with those throwing/attending the party and the groom/fiance’s job was to arrive at the end and start hauling out all the gifts to the car. Today times have changed and now it is not unusual to have couple’s showers where both attend and enjoy the festivities. It’s a good idea to let your friends and family know your thoughts and preferences whether traditional or not.
2. Do you have a particular theme you wish for?
It is always fun when showers are hosted with a particular theme in mind. Often themes are chosen taking into consideration the bride or couple’s interests and likes or trying to capture a particular mood or feeling. Themes range from “Garden Party” (guests sip on tea or martini’s in a beautiful garden setting) to “Spa Party” (guests enjoy time together having facials or mani/pedi) to “Candy Party” (where every kind of candy is displayed in interesting ways for all to sample) to “Glamour Party” (where each guest is given a colourful boa as they walk the red carpet). If you have a particular theme wish now is the time to share it.
3. What are your thoughts on venue?
Your shower may take place in a beautiful garden either public or private, or be planned in someone’s home or even at the office. It may occur at the retirement home making it easy for grandma to attend or at a hall depending on numbers being invited. If you know of relatives and friends that would want to attend one of your showers but have special requirements because of disability or otherwise now is the time to let those most likely to plan know.
4. Do you have food preferences?
Food for showers sometimes will involve a meal but most often it is an afternoon of great nibbles, both sweet and otherwise. If you totally dislike or have developed allergies/sensitivities for certain foods now is the time to make that known. Shower hosts might ask various people to contribute to a potluck style of gathering or even arrange to have it catered and the last thing you need is hives or upset stomach at the end of the day.
5. What are your thoughts on games?
Shower planners often arrange to have party games played at the shower to keep the mood happy and lively as well as assist everyone in mingling and mixing. There are endless options to be played. Have you heard of the toilet paper bridal gown and veil game? Guests are divided in groups and asked to pick one person from their group to don the wedding ensemble made out of toilet paper. If there is a shower you’ve attended in the past and loved playing a game or found it effective then this is the time to share ..or…if you dislike all games at showers you might want to mention this.
6. Have you started your shower registry?
At this point you have had some time to peruse your free wedding website and no doubt are thrilled with having your universal gift registry option. Any item from anywhere can be added to your wedding registry from surfing the net on your computer AND by using Eventastic Weddings APP downloadable through any APP store for any smartphone. We suggest that you make not only your “Wedding Registry” of items for your guests to see but ALSO one or multiple “Shower Registry” lists. Shower registry items would typically be items that are lower priced or group buy options.

It’s important that your shower planners get your thoughts on these aspects to help in its success. Remember that your shower could be added to your events page to made invites easier and could even have a ticketing option to help pay for some of the costs. (Your planners will love that!)
Have fun uploading all your shower pictures to a “shower album” on your wedding website for everyone to enjoy!
